This year will be one the first we’ve had in the USA where we’ve had a chance to celebrate Halloween, which really isn’t a very big thing in the UK.  I’m looking forward to it, but at the same time I’m a bit worried, first, I’m not sure what to do, and second some of the Halloween decorations I’ve seen are, shall we say, not in the best of taste.

No, I’m not being stuffy – I know Halloween is a bit of fun, but I thought I’d have a look to see what you can do to create simple elegant decorations which get into the spirit of the season.

Since Halloween is in the Autumn, wonderful foliage is absolutely right for Halloween decoration, so may aim is to create something which is warm and friendly for the autumn, but which can be made a lot more spooky for Halloween itself. Bare branches are ideal, as are pumpkins. Carve them if you like, but small piles of interesting shapes and textures of pumpkins and gourds make an ideal decoration for the table and for the kitchen.

This video shows some great halloween decorating – I particularly enjoyed the centerpiece, all the colors of the season, and very simple. All I need to do now, is track down a black crow. I’m really not sure about the spiders though! They look far too real to me!
